DONATION DOLLARS AT WORK

Funds raised through The Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer support Personalized Cancer Medicine, including research, treatment advances, education and new standards of care at The Princess Margaret, across Ontario, and around the world.

IMPACT & USE OF FUNDS

Since 2008, The Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer has raised over $194 million for the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre and is Canada’s largest cycling fundraiser. The Ride to Conquer Cancer series is Canada’s largest peer-to-peer fundraising event.

Princess Margaret Cancer Centre is one of the top 5 cancer research centres in the world. It is home to the largest clinical trials program in the country that is transforming Cancer Care for all Canadians. It has the largest radiation medicine program under one roof in the world and has the largest surgical oncology program in the country. As global leaders in cancer care, The Princess Margaret has the expertise to treat over 200 types of cancers including the rarest forms of the disease.

Funds raised through The Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer support Personalized Cancer Medicine research, treatment advances, education and new standards of care at Princess Margaret, across Ontario, and around the world.

Personalized Cancer Medicine is a multi-faceted, integrated approach to cancer care that focuses on the unique nature of each patient. Because every patient is unique, every patient’s cancer is different. Funds raised through The Ride are enabling the scientists and research clinicians at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre to better understand the unique nature of each cancer and each patient, which are leading to more effective, targeted and less toxic treatments for cancer patients.

Funds raised by Riders are allocated into four main areas of Personalized Cancer Medicine:

DETECT

Detecting cancers early leads to better outcomes. The Princess Margaret is working to develop new Molecular Imaging Technology that can see tiny cancers. They are also making advances with Biomarkers, indicators of cancer that can be detected through blood and serum tests.

DIAGNOSE

The Princess Margaret is underway testing new equipment and procedures which help determine the specific genetic mutation of a patient. This information enables their doctors and researchers to recommend the optimal combination of drug and other therapies to treat the patient.

TARGET

Researchers, scientists and doctors at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre are developing ways to make surgery, radiation and drug treatments more targeted to the cells with cancer. This approach will leave healthy tissue intact, minimizing toxic side effects and new treatments such as Immune Therapy will help lead to better survival rates.

SUPPORT

Princess Margaret Cancer Centre is working to provide programs and strategies to help patients living with cancer and their families to cope with the emotional and physical effects of cancer treatment. The award-winning survivorship, patient education and psychosocial support programs help reduce stress and improve the overall patient experience.

SINCE 2008, THE PRINCESS MARGARET HAS ALSO USED FUNDS RAISED THROUGH THE RIDE TO SUPPORT OTHER CORE CANCER AREAS, INCLUDING:

More than 17,700 new patients are treated per year, with 1 in 6 people participating in a clinical trial. We are thankful for the Ride community and their passion to Conquer Cancer in our Lifetime.
