Training Preperation for the Enbridge Conquer Cancer Ride

Two years ago when I registered for the first ride, Conquer Cancer trainers handed me the "suggested training guidelines" given below. So, I developed a training plan at the gym as recommended in the guidelines. However, a plan for Training Rides was a different story. The cold weather pretty much prevented me from riding my bike. So, I signed up for spinning classes one day a week from January to the end of May. For me it was a life style change. I lost significant weight and by June, I was ready for the ride.

This year I invested in the Tacx NEO trainer. This allows me to use my bike to train indoors. Tacx - the manufacturer of the trainer - has an excellent computer program with training plans and numerous GPS rides synchronized with video of the routes to be used with PCs/Mac and phones. These virtual rides are great. It's like being on-site.

This is my commitment and the commitment of every rider who takes on the Enbridge Conquer Cancer Ride.

Like every other cyclist, I use Strava to track my outdoor rides. It is a wonderful tool. It collects the data and summarizes the results at the end of the year. Below is one of their video summaries for me. Check it out, if you like.

Suggested Training Guidelines

During winter months, indoor training might be more suitable, so plan on spending more time spinning, weight training, on the treadmill and/or on a stationary bike. Cross-training will really help your early season fitness! A hard 45 minute spin class is equivalent to roughly 20 – 25 km on the road.

Training: Preperation for the Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer
Run Time - 1:16 Minutes.

A short summary of my preparation for the Conquer Cancer Ride in 2018. All cycling rides are tracked and uploaded to Strave. At the end of every year Strava prepares a short video from my data.

Tacx - Catalonia, Girona Costa Brava - Els Angels
Virtual Ride Route is in Spain

Els Angels is a fairly easy climb that's situated just outside Girona in Catalonia. It's a popular route with the many professional and amateur cyclists that live there.

The climb's official summit is at the Els Angels chapel that's up a side road at the highest point of the main road. This ride takes in both sides with the 1st accent from Madremanya on the eastern side taking you up to the chapel. The climb is mostly forested so there is not a lot of views but it's also twisty & varied so not boring at all.

Conquer Cancer Training Ride - Meaford Bruce Peninsula
Run Time - 0:42 Minutes.

Chilly, but sunny day in Meaford Ontario located on Georgian bay in the Bruce peninsula. Hilly terrain great place for cycling. This route is mix of easy to difficult and challenging hills.
